So you’ve ordered by bees and set up your hive. Now what? In this class Carrie VanWinkle will provide you with the important how-tos of the first year of beekeeping. Weather permitting we’ll do a hive inspection. Carrie will teach us what the bees are doing, bee behaviors (including signs of swarms), important things to know about honey bee biology, the four products of the hive and their purpose, and identifying issues in the hive and natural approaches to addressing them. Hike, harvest, and learn more about ramps, a wild spring delicacy also known as wild leeks. Join Foxhollow Farm on a hike to harvest ramps and forage for other wild edibles. You’ll learn how to clean and store your findings. We are so excited to be adding an Artisan Cheese Making Course to the Foxhollow Folk School winter calendar! The class will take place Sunday, February 19, 2011 from 10am-5pm. The cost is $125, with lunch and supplies included. Ed is going to teach us how to make 5-6 cheeses including Mozzarella, Mascarpone, Yogurt, Queso Blanco, and Ricotta. When you leave the class you will be able to make all of these cheeses at home using local JD milk (Ed’s secret to success.)
